Name it! The versatility of a button-down shirt...
...and how it can solve all summer dressing conundrums
I only wear button-down shirts when it’s warm enough to skip a sweater (I don’t love a collar-under-sweater situation…too preppy). But when it is warm enough to wear a shirt by itself I hardly wear anything else.
I love the versatility of a button-down. It can be worn tucked into a pair of trousers for a city-summer look, unbuttoned over a swimsuit, or half-buttoned over skirts for a daytime outing on holiday.
I also don’t discriminate, and love a cotton shirt just as much as a linen one, a long sleeve as much as a short sleeve, etc etc.
So let me take you through nine (!!) looks, all for different occasions.

I. Beach look
Worn over a swimsuit or bikini for lunch, or tied around the waist as a skirt if in need of something covering the legs. Great accessories elevate the look, and I especially love a bold cuff or bangle.
Zara Men’s striped shirt, Hunza G swimsuit, Tiffany Elsa Peretti bone cuff, Bottega Veneta drop earrings
You can even wear one shirt on top and another wrapped around as a skirt.

II. Market look
My favourite activity during summer is going grocery shopping at the local market in France. The below has been my uniform season after season. Shorts and a swimsuit, with a shirt over.
I love to wear black during summer and the black beaded necklace from Cos worn below has been such a great styling piece. Unfortunately it is a couple of years old, but Tom Wood have recently come out with a collection of black beaded jewellery made of Larvikite.
Hunza G swimsuit, Yaitte striped shirt (sadly sold out, but this is nice too, and this from WNU), The Row Oregon raffia bag, old Cos necklace but Tom Wood have made a beautiful necklace in larvikite
