I. Just Kids by Patti Smith
I can’t believe I haven’t read this before, and if you haven’t either I highly recommend you start immediately.
I recently read Kingmaker the biography on Pamela Harriman Churchill and loved it, but it didn't pull me in in the same way this book has. Obviously there is a difference between a biography and a memoir. A memoir does immediately become more personal and raw, which Just Kids definitely is.
It’s a beautifully written coming-of-age story where Patti Smith let’s us in on life in 60s-70s New York as an up-and-coming artist, and her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. Highly recommend!
II. Victoria Beckham Posh Balm in the colour colette
Three things to say about this; 1) seriously nourishing, 2) great shine without being sticky (I don’t like lip gloss), 3) beautiful colour
III. The Skinny Scarf from noName
I feel spring has finally arrived in London this week, and even though I find spring a difficult time to dress I am so happy my coats soon can take a break. However the mornings are still very chilly. So on the days I’ve changed out my coat for a blazer I have been wearing my Skinny Scarf from noName tightly wrapped around my neck. Trust me it is a must-have for this transitional weather.
P.S. It also comes with a beautiful matching roundneck knitted using a technique called interlock making it stretchy and extra luxurious
IV. The colour palette at Dries Van Noten and this I-D article by Steff Yotka
Dries Van Noten may be one of my favourite designers. For decades he has been making truly exceptional clothes that can actually be worn in real life, and when he announced he was stepping down last year I was devastated (and worried). But luckily his successor Julian Klausner has worked at the label for six years and without a doubt learnt by doing.
Wednesday marked his first Dries van Noten show at the helm and it was exceptional. I saw so many pieces I would love to have in my own wardrobe, and as always the colour palette was mesmerizing.
Dries Van Noten always manages to make me want to wear colours I’ve never particularly loved before - burnt oranges, dark olives and rich purples - yum.
V. Paola Petrobelli lamps
Paola Petrobelli is an Italian artist who works with glass and makes the most stunning lamps in hand blown murano glass. Not only are her lamps (which come in four different colour combinations) beautiful to look at, they are also wireless, rechargeable and portable making them practical to move and use around the house.
They are so fun to add to a set dinner table instead of candles, but look equally good lighting up a bookshelf.
